
Luna Red is operated by Shanny Covey, Robin Covey and Chef Shaun Behrens and owned by Robin and Shanny, who also own two of the Central Coast’s most popular restaurant destinations—Robin’s, in Cambria, and Novo, in downtown San Luis Obispo. Both combine an artful amalgamation of world cuisines, prepared with local fare.
Started in October 2010, Luna Red is the Covey’s third venture. It is a unique dining concept created and executed by Chef Shaun Behrens. A passion for simple and clean food, local produce, and a warm ambiance helped spur the vision for Luna Red. Inspired by the European custom of respect for the locality and traditional preparation of food, the menu includes cured meats, local cheeses, and produce from regional farmers’ markets.


Robin, Shanny and Chef Shaun have created Luna Red to be a relaxed, yet sophisticated environment. Personal touches abound in the ambiance. The staff serves with care and class. Luna Red was born out of a desire to bring an otherwise empty building into a vibrant and exciting tapas style destination restaurant. Formerly located on Monterey Street across from the San Luis Obispo courthouse, Luna Red relocated in April of 2012 and re-opened its doors on Chorro Street, next to the historic Mission Plaza. Robin has honored the Spanish-style building by filling it with eclectic décor, which includes antique windows, doors converted to stunning mirrors, local art and lush, indoor plants. The patio, complete with outdoor cabana bar, bright umbrellas & patio furniture do all to promise our patrons a fantastic experience. Chef Shaun has created a truly unique menu, a combination of small plates & family-style entrees that appeal to any palate. The result is a dining experience that will warm you and satisfy your culinary curiosity.
